Extended Desciption

The Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales makes grants to recognised charities and new work across the voluntary sector to improve the quality of life for people in local communities.

The Foundation aims to support charities that help disadvantaged people play a fuller role in the community through delivering lasting changes and benefits for their users/beneficiaries.

Key Criteria

Charities that are located in either England or Wales are eligible to apply.

Organisations must:

  • Be an underfunded charity (12 months of reserves or less).
  • Have an income of £1 million or less if working locally or in a region.

  • Be working to enable disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.
  • Be clear on the specific changes and benefits that the work will provide for users/beneficiaries to help them to play a fuller role in the community.

Eligible Expenditure

The Community programme focuses on funding core work that helps disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community. The Foundation is particularly interested in work that achieves this through:

  • Improved social and community involvement.
  • Improved life choices and chances.
  • Helping people to be heard.

Funding can be used to continue and develop existing community-based work, or to develop the organisation or its services, for example to:

  • Enable the continued provision of services.
  • Support the expansion of services.
  • Help improve the quality of services.
  • Maintain and or improve the organisation's capacity and/or effectiveness.
  • Encourage learning and best practice.
  • Lobby or campaign at a local, regional or national level.

The following costs are eligible for support:

  • Running costs, including salaries to ensure that charities can maintain and develop their core work/services.
  • Funding for projects that build on charities' core work.

Match Funding Restrictions

The Foundation does not match funds raised but is happy to consider applications that ask to contribute to a project as one of a number of funders.

Funding is not available for the following:

  • Organisations that are not registered charities.
  • Second and third-tier organisations (unless there is evidence of direct benefit to disadvantaged people).
  • Charities that mainly work overseas.
  • Charities that mainly give funds to other charities, individuals or other organisations.
