Extended Description

Grants are provided and administered by The Girdlers’ Company Charitable Trust. The focus of the Trust’s donations is with its Principle Charities, with whom it has long standing relationships. The Trust only considers applications under the categories of Hammersmith and Peckham and General applications.

The Trust's main aims are to:

  • Improve the quality of life of those disadvantaged by poverty, disability or ill health.
  • Provide education and training support in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Preserve or improve the physical fabric of the community.

 

Latest Information

Annual deadlines are as follows:

  • Hammersmith and Peckham: the last Friday in January. During 2013 the Trustees are considering changes to the Hammersmith and Peckham category. The application process will re-open when the revised guidelines are published. Any applications received prior to publication will not be considered.
  • General applications: the last Friday in January and the last Friday in August.

Key Criteria

Applications for donations under General applications will only be considered from registered charities with an annual income below £1 million, or from registered Community Amateur Sports Clubs.

Applicants should be based within England or Wales and typically half of the general donations are awarded outside London.

Applications for donations under the Hammersmith and Peckham category will only be accepted from registered charities or from registered Community Amateur Sports Clubs whose beneficiaries reside in Hammersmith or Peckham.


Eligible Expenditure

The five specific areas under which applicants can apply are:

  • Medicine and health.
  • Education.
  • Welfare
  • Youth welfare.
  • Heritage, environment, humanities and Christian religion.

Each area has an equal preference.

Grants can be used for core costs including salaries, revenue or capital items.


Restrictions

Successful applicants are highly unlikely to be awarded a further donation within the following five years.


Application Procedure

Applications should be made in writing on headed paper and cover each of the following points:

  • Which one of the specific areas the application is being made under.
  • A brief summary of the organisation’s background and aims.
  • The specific nature of the request, highlighting the intended change.
  • How the organisation will know if these changes have been achieved.
